Jumping on my soapbox to say that slapping pink and glitter on something does not suddenly make it fit for girls.

But at the same time, I am thrilled to see so many more toys, gear, and books that celebrate strong girls and women. It’s about time, right? Now there’s more than enough selection to pick a nice, empowering gift:

Speaking of books, there are so many awesome girl empowerment books that I can’t list all of my favorites, but a recently published one is Go, Girls, Go!

It’s always driven me nuts that boys star in most of the “things that go” picture books. Finally, girls are at the center of the action in Go, Girls, Go!

There is also no shortage of board books highlighting persistent girls, so here are only three:

My First Book of Feminism (for Boys) reminds me of the viral New York Times article advocating for men to “lean out” and make space for women.

This Little Trailblazer: A Girl Power Primer features a collection of real, inspiring, and diverse women.

See illustrations of famous women as babies before they grew up to become Frida Kahlo, Yoko Ono, and Michelle Obama in Baby Feminist.
